Albania

Journey to Albania is a 10-day off-road tourist event in this amazing country. Great views, wild trails, often unrepaired for many years, and total wilderness. Beach accommodation by the sea. All this is still in Europe.

Albania is a mountainous country, where highlands cover 75% of the country’s area. The mountains that rise on the territory of Albania are the southern extension of the great Balkan chain of the Dinaric Mountains. To the north are the North Albanian Mountains called Alpet Shqiptare. The Central Albanian Mountains rise between the rivers Drin and Osum. The lowlands occupy one quarter of the country’s surface and are in the coastal strip in the form of alluvias, up to a maximum of 50 km inland. The coastal zone is occupied by the Albanian Lowland, where it is surrounded by sea and river sediments. Within the Central-Albanian Mountains lies the Korczy Basin, which is the largest valley in the country. The bottom of the valley rests at an altitude of about 800 m a.s.l. Latitudinal river valleys cut Albania’s mountanius terrain in many places.

The expedition takes place in summer – when it is warm, sleeping in a tent does not cause problems and warm water in the lakes and the sea encourages bathing. The route does not require drowning cars up to door handles – it is demanding in places, but anyone, even a novice off-road driver, will beat it. All you need is a 4 × 4 car with a reducer. The winch is unlikely to be useful. There will be access to water and fuel every day. You can also get everything you need in villages or towns that you pass every day. Take camping gear, a flashlight, good ankle boots and a wind stopwatch jacket – high mountains can be windy
