Experience a unique off-road adventure with us in Mauritania. The trip will last 2 weeks (from the meeting in Rabat to the end of the trip on the border between Mauritania and Western Sahara). We will show you a country that lies almost entirely in the Sahara desert. Famous for the largest monolith of Africa – Ben Amery – which we can enter on foot. We will traverse the vastness of the desert, riding 3 days on the sand without any city along the way. You’ll find out what real desert, real off-road and real challenge mean.
Mauritania (Arabic: موريتانيا Muritanija, official name: Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Arabic: الجمهورية الإسلامية الموريتانية Al-Jumhurija al-Islamija al-Muritanija) – a state in North-West Africa, Africa. Bordering Senegal, Mali, Algeria and Western Sahara, a significant part of the country is made up of the Saharan desert territories.
Mauritania has access to the Atlantic Ocean (the coastline is 1,200 km). Most of the country is Sahara. The only large river that does not dry out is Senegal (borderland). Highest elevation: Kediet ej Jill – 915 m a.s.l.
In the south of the country, in the Sahel, savannas covered with acacia (gum arabic) are a common element of the landscape. Towards midnight they get drier and gradually change into the desert.
Mauritania has only 1,400 km of paved roads, the others are gravel roads.
